Hiking in Zell am See-Kaprun
Summer, sun, mountains – your hiking holiday in the Zell am See-Kaprun region
It is still early when you climb the steps to the gondola of the lower terminus to the Schmittenhöhe. A sunrise hiking tour is on the agenda - the gondola designed by Porsche runs an extra shift. Lake Zell is still hidden in the morning mist, the mountain peaks are already immersed in warm sunshine. The first rays of sunshine dazzle you while the gondola pushes through the fog. The sun shines at a low angle through the panoramic glazing into the gondola - time to take a picture.
Once arrived at the top, it doesn't feel like summer - the mornings in 2.000 metres above sea level are quite crisp. But that changes after the first few steps on the hiking tour across the Pinzgau Walk. The guide marches ahead but not without commenting the view and the beauty of this hiking tour. He seems to be very competent and confident. You look at the glaciated peaks of the Hohe Tauern, over thirty 3.000 metres high mountains can be seen from here. You are happy, the hiking holiday in Zell am See-Kaprun has exceeded your expectations.
Even closer to the 3.000 metres high mountains
Directly into the world of the Hohe Tauern, the gondola at the Alpincenter takes you to the base of the Kitzsteinhorn. The summit pyramid sits majestically high above the glacier plateau - "Horn", a suitable name. Even though summer rules in the valley, it is quite cold above 2.000 metres. Just as well we took warm clothes. The guide is already waiting at the agreed meeting point and welcomes us with a big smile. He will lead us into the world of the 3.000 metres high mountains. Or shall we go for the summit tour? It is really quite cold up here. Tomorrow, we shall go on a hiking tour on the Maiskogel Family Mountain. The mountain is situated several hundred metres lower and great hiking tours and beautiful hiking trails are also waiting there. Or should we combine both? We could hike the Alexander Enzinger Trails from the Maiskogel to the Kitzsteinhorn. Are we sure-footed enough for this alpine challenge?
