Jogging around Zell am See-Kaprun

For your daily running training, the loop around Lake Zell is of course the perfect choice: When do you ever have the opportunity to jog in a setting between glacier, mountains and lake? On the high-altitude promenade in Thumersbach, you are even closer to the peaks, but here you also have a few more metres of altitude ahead of you. The Porscheallee circuit in the Schüttdorf district of Zell or the Tauern SPA circuit in Kaprun, on the other hand, only run along the flat bottom of the valley, but still offer impressive views of the mountains.

Routes for all levels of ability

For trail runners, the Zell am See-Kaprun region is a great outdoor playground: there is a wide range of possibilities for short or extended runs in alpine terrain. The choice ranges from the gorge circuit to trails high up on the Schmittenhöhe. The cable car takes you up to 2,000 metres above sea level, and you can start your trail run high above the bottom of the valley. There are also a few metres of altitude to cover on the Panorama Trail. As with the Thumersbacher Höfe run, every effort is rewarded with magnificent views.

The Grossglockner Ultra Trail

The ultimate challenge for trail runners is the Grossglockner Ultra Trail: you can take on this challenge every year in July when you set off into the alpine wilderness in the Hohe Tauern together with other passionate runners. The trail leads to and around the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain. You have to cover a total of 110 kilometres and 6,500 metres in altitude. The route leads through seven valleys mostly on single trails, past 14 glaciers and crosses the Alps twice.
