Social affairs The foundation of our actions
Social sustainability is more than just a buzzword for us, it is a fundamental part of our philosophy. A living environment that is far more than just a workplace. By acting responsibly in an inclusive, fair, and committed community, we are committed to turning your workplace into the ideal living environment. With initiatives and programmes such as Alps at their very best or the Academy for Entrepreneurs, we want to support the local economy and ensure the personal and professional development of people in the region.
Achieving more together Training, further training, and team spirit as the key to success
Social sustainability is a fundamental pillar of our strategy, focussing on the development and well-being of our community. By investing in the training and further training of our employees in the region and promoting a strong team spirit, we actively contribute to the long-term vibrance of our region.
Von Alpen das Beste Team
At the same time, the "Von Alpen das Beste Team" initiative promotes a working environment in which employees can not only earn a living, but also develop personally and professionally. Following the motto ‘Don't apply - working here will change your life’, we create an environment that supports creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Employees in Zell am See-Kaprun enjoy numerous benefits and are encouraged to play an active role in shaping their workplace. Through regular community events and a dedicated app for employee networking and training, we strengthen cohesion and promote a culture based on mutual respect and support.

Academy for Entrepreneurs in Zell am See-Kaprun
The "Academy for Entrepreneurs" sets new standards in the training of managers in the region’s tourism sector. This unique educational programme, designed specifically for hoteliers and their successors, aims to convey comprehensive knowledge and practical skills. Participants benefit from training that is tailored to their needs and prepares them perfectly for future challenges in the hotel industry. Through seminars, workshops and excursions tailored to the specific conditions of our region, we enable future managers to realise their full potential and effectively contribute to the further development of tourism in the region.

These initiatives are an expression of our commitment to social sustainability, which is not limited to ecological aspects, but also aims to strengthen and further develop the social fabric of our region.
Zell am See-Kaprun & the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Sustainable tourism for a liveable future in the Zell am See-Kaprun region
Zell am See-Kaprun combines amazing nature with a strong commitment to sustainability. As a pioneer in Alpine tourism, we focus on environmentally friendly mobility, regional added value, and gentle enjoyment of nature. Our initiatives and services are based on the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations (SDGs), thus making tourism fit for the future.
SDG 1: No poverty
The goal is to end poverty everywhere and in all its forms. People should have access to basic resources such as education, health, and social security. One focus is on promoting sustainable economic growth and social justice.
Sustainable tourism secures fair jobs and creates economic prospects. Affordable housing initiatives support tourism employees by providing employee housing. Local value chains strengthen the regional economy and ensure our positive financial impact in the region.
SDG 2: No hunger
The goal is committed to the eradication of hunger and malnutrition. It promotes sustainable agriculture, access to nutritious food, and support for small farmers. It is important to adapt agriculture to climate change, thus ensuring long-term food security.
Regional agriculture and high-quality catering are key components of our region. With programs like "Salzburg schmeckt," we jointly promote the use of regional food, while hotels and restaurants implement measures to prevent food waste through certified standards such as the Austrian Ecolabel.
SDG 3: Health and well-being
All people should have access to basic healthcare, clean water sources, and healthy living conditions. This goal includes combating diseases, reducing child mortality, and protecting against global health risks.
Healthy nature, healthy people: Zell am See-Kaprun promotes recreational activities such as outdoor sports, conscious exercise, and regional culinary delights. Our wellness and health offerings focus on natural regeneration and slowing down.
SDG 4: High-quality education
Education for all is key to combating poverty and promoting equal opportunities. This goal strives to develop high-quality and inclusive education systems. Special attention is paid to the promotion of women and disadvantaged groups.
High-quality education is a central component of our technologically driven, highly developed lives. Programmes such as guided national park excursions, environmental education programmes, and cooperation with local schools create awareness of nature, sustainability, and regional values. We also promote entrepreneurial development through our Von Alpen das Beste Team initiative and the Academy for Entrepreneurs.
SDG 5: Gender equality
The aim is to empower women and girls worldwide and eliminate discrimination. This includes access to education, equal pay, political participation, and protection from violence. Gender equality is a cornerstone of sustainable development.
In Zell am See-Kaprun, we focus on equal opportunities and diversity in the tourism industry and all other parts of our lives. Women hold key positions in the hotel industry, catering and destination management. Programs such as the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber's "Women in Business" programme to promote female leaders and individual work models support equal opportunities in business life.
SDG 10: Reduced inequalities (because a sustainable economy requires fair distribution)
Inequality between and within countries should be reduced. This includes equal economic, social, and political opportunities. Special support is provided to disadvantaged groups such as migrants or people with disabilities.
Zell am See-Kaprun promotes inclusion and accessibility in tourism as part of a holistic approach to development. Numerous hotels, cable cars, and leisure activities are wheelchair accessible. Special programmes enable people with limited mobility to experience nature, for example through adaptive winter sports programmes.
SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities
Cities should be inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. The focus is on affordable housing, public transport, and green spaces. Protection against natural disasters and the reduction of environmental pollution in urban areas are also key concerns.
Climate-friendly mobility solutions for our guests' arrival and departure, as well as during their stay, are a top priority for us. We also promote sustainable regional development in our area together with our strong partners from the Climate & Energy Model Regions and the Climate Change Adaptation Model Region.
SDG 16: Peace, justice, and strong institutions
The goal is to promote peaceful, just, and inclusive societies. This includes fighting corruption, protecting human rights, and ensuring access to justice for all. Functioning institutions are essential for sustainable development.
Zell am See-Kaprun actively engages with regional and national authorities to ensure compliance with all environmental certifications. Clear guidelines for sustainable business practices and the promotion of participation ensure responsible destination development.
SDG 17: Partnerships to achieve the goals
Global partnerships should support progress in the implementation of the SDGs. This includes the exchange of knowledge, technologies, and financial resources between countries. Cooperation between governments, companies and civil society is essential.
Sustainability and long-term development can only be achieved together. Zell am See-Kaprun works closely with regional businesses and academic institutions such as the University of Innsbruck to develop sustainable tourism concepts.
