economy Business in harmony with the future

We believe that a sustainable economy acts responsibly towards people and nature. That is why we are committed to innovative solutions that promote sustainable development and at the same time ensure our business success. Together with the two mountain railways of the Schmittenhöhebahn and the Gletscherbahnen Kaprun, Verbund and numerous businesses in the region that are certified with the Austrian Ecolabel or are in the process of certification, we strive for sustainable business practices that are both environmentally friendly and economically efficient.

Zell am See-Kaprun & the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Sustainable tourism for a liveable future in the Zell am See-Kaprun region

Zell am See-Kaprun combines amazing nature with a strong commitment to sustainability. As a pioneer in Alpine tourism, we focus on environmentally friendly mobility, regional added value, and gentle enjoyment of nature. Our initiatives and services are based on the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations (SDGs), thus making tourism fit for the future.

SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth

The aim is to promote sustainable, inclusive, and decent economic growth. Fair working conditions and social security systems are to be established worldwide. Innovation and entrepreneurship are also promoted.

Sustainable tourism creates long-term, fair jobs. We focus on fair working conditions, local added value, and promote innovative business models that enable sustainable and balanced economic growth in the Zell am See-Kaprun region.

SDG 9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure

Sustainable infrastructure and innovative technologies should facilitate the transition to a green economy. This includes the expansion of modern transport and communication systems. The aim is to reduce inequalities between countries and regions.

Innovations such as electromobility & well-developed public transport in the region, sustainable construction methods for projects, and digital solutions for visitor guidance contribute to intelligent infrastructure development.

SDG 10: Reduced inequalities (because a sustainable economy requires fair distribution)

Inequality between and within countries should be reduced. This includes equal economic, social, and political opportunities. Special support is provided to disadvantaged groups such as migrants or people with disabilities.

Zell am See-Kaprun promotes inclusion and accessibility in tourism as part of a holistic approach to development. Numerous hotels, cable cars, and leisure activities are wheelchair accessible. Special programmes enable people with limited mobility to experience nature, for example through adaptive winter sports programmes.

SDG 12: Sustainable consumption and production

The production and consumption of goods should be organised in a way that conserves resources. This includes the promotion of recycling, less food waste, and sustainable supply chains. The aim is to minimise the ecological footprint of production and consumption.

Our tourism businesses focus on regional products, zero-waste concepts, and environmentally conscious event planning. Programmes such as "Salzburg schmeckt," Green Events, and our financial support for certification with the Austrian Ecolabel support businesses in the region in their transition to sustainable operations. Furthermore, the Zell am See-Kaprun region is on the path to certification with the Austrian Ecolabel for tourism destinations.

SDG 17: Partnerships to achieve the goals

Global partnerships should support progress in the implementation of the SDGs. This includes the exchange of knowledge, technologies, and financial resources between countries. Cooperation between governments, companies and civil society is essential.

Sustainability and long-term development can only be achieved together. Zell am See-Kaprun works closely with regional businesses and academic institutions such as the University of Innsbruck to develop sustainable tourism concepts.
