End of August - End of October 2020
When autumn arrives in the Salzburger Land, then it is traditionally time for Bauernherbst. After the harvest and after everyone has been looking back to a successful summer, then it's time for celebrations. Nowadays, we celebrate Bauernherbst in the Zell am See-Kaprun region during that time of the year. The best time to remember custom, tradition and original crafts is between the end of August and end of October. Bauernherbst in Zell am See-Kaprun is celebrated on the mountain with special herb walks and in the valley with a wide range of custom festivals and celebrations when the farmers bring down the cattle from the mountain pastures. This year's special Bauernherbst motto is "Dancing in the Bauernherbst".
Tip: Visit the "Mystical Forest" themed hiking trail on the Schmittenhöhe.
From bringing down the cows to the Zell farmers
The time of the Bauernherbst is also the best time of the year for hiking tours and extensive mountain tours. This is why we in Zell am See-Kaprun celebrate the Bauernherbst with a traditional Mountain Mass on the Schmittenhöhe on 8th of September. You can look forward to the highlight of the Mountain Festival when the winner of the traditional Ranggel tournament is announced. To get a chance of winning, you need strength, stamina and strategy - several qualities of which the Zell am See-Kaprun farmers have plenty. The Farmers' Market with regional specialities and local arts and crafts awaits after the Ranggel tournament. Local products cannot only be sampled on the mountain but also in the valley in Zell am See and Kaprun during the time of the Farmers' Autumn. Visit our Bauernherbst inns and don't miss the Bauernherbst Festival at Enzianhütte in Thumersbach on 12 September when the farmer brings down the cattle from the mountain. Kaprun farmers invite to the Bauernherbst Festival in Kaprun on 13 September.
