Eating really well in Zell am See-Kaprun
The way to the heart is through the stomach, as the old saying goes. If that is true, then Zell am See-Kaprun has a good chance of becoming your eternal favourite!
In addition to the wide range of culinary delights for down-to-earth fans and gourmets, two very special highlights await you in autumn: The Alpine Delight Weeks in September and the newly created Alpine Delight Trails. Bon Appetit!
It is one of the unsolved mysteries of all holiday trips: Food on holiday always tastes particularly good. In Zell am See-Kaprun this is certainly also due to the fact that the region has dedicated itself entirely to enjoyment. A total of eight Toque award-winning restaurants serves fine food for gourmets, plus a multitude of cosy restaurants, modern cafés and bars offers a delicious selection ranging from down-to-earth cuisine to unusual creations.
The best Alpine Delight addresses also include the highest-situated restaurant in the country of Salzburg on the Kitzsteinhorn and the gourmet stations on the Schmittenhöhe: here, your favourite meal is on the menu, accompanied by an impressive view of mountain peaks. By the way, the food at the restaurants is, wherever possible, prepared with regional and seasonal ingredients that come from farmers and small producers in the neighborhood.
Recommendation for gourmets: The Alpine Delight Weeks
The love of enjoyment is also reflected in the region's calendar of events: the Alpine Delight Weeks in Zell am See-Kaprun have become a must-do for gourmets. This year, they will take place from 10 to 26 September 2021 and are once again dedicated to the delicacies of the Alpine cuisine. For 16 days, guests are invited to a culinary voyage of discovery all day long.

FROM MORNING...
Enjoying a delicious breakfast is a big part of the programme during the Alpine Delight Weeks. How about a farmer's breakfast at the Heimatgold shop, for example, where you can sample the best regional products? Or would you rather prefer an Alpine Mountain Brunch under the motto "Lake meets Mountain"?
... UNTIL EVENING
An extraordinary taste sensation awaits you on 15 and 22 September at the lifestyle restaurant Luis' Gardens in Kaprun. Herbs, sprouts and salads are grown at the restaurant's own indoor farm in the middle of the restaurant. As part of the Alpine Delight Weeks, guests are invited to learn more about indoor farming and, of course, to try and sample it. Prepared with home-grown and regional products, guests can look forward to a 4-course menu.
Local, self-produced food also sets the tone on the "Pinzga Roas" (culinary journey through Pinzgau). At each of these events at the Kraftwerk restaurant in Zell am See, a farmer from the region is introduced and presents one of his or her best products - and these are of course immediately turned into fine food creations.
Alpine cuisine newly interpreted
Although the Alpine Delight Weeks are all about regional products and Alpine cuisine, they are by no means limited to traditional dishes: This is demonstrated, for example, by an evening at Flo's Restaurant, where culinary artist Flo creates an innovative 6-course menu based around mushrooms, pumpkin, game, herbs & berries.
Several exciting events will also take place at the Tauern SPA in Kaprun during the Alpine Delight Weeks. One highlight is definitely the 10-course menu at the FinESSEN restaurant under the motto "Expedition Genusserlebnis" (Expedition Taste Sensation) on 25 September.
The list of culinary events that we must not miss could go on for quite some time: The delicious selection ranges from herb dishes to cuisine with a Mediterranean twist or healthy cuisine at the Grand Hotel Zell am See. It's hard to choose!

New in the region: the Alpine Delight Trails
In addition to the annual Alpine Delight Weeks, the region has recently added three new Alpine Delight Trails. They too are dedicated to the Alpine cuisine and are named after the unbeatable trio in our home region: "Lake", "Mountain" and "Glacier".
Special dishes of Alpine cuisine are served at a total of 13 selected addresses in Zell am See-Kaprun - from the mountain restaurant on the Schmittenhöhe and the Gipfel Restaurant on the Kitzsteinhorn to outstanding establishments directly on the lake. In addition to traditional classics, such as fried beef and onions in gravy, old recipes are also reinterpreted: the creations include, for example, delicacies such as the Alp Burger with wild herb salad or the Dry Aged Pinzgauer Beef & Mountain Hay with pickled porcini mushrooms and young parsley.

Focus on regional products
The focus of the culinary creations along the Alpine Delight Trails is once again on working with regional products - for good reason! After all, the best products can be found literally "at the doorstep": for example, old, almost forgotten vegetable varieties or crisp salads, culinary herbs come from the National Park nursery. The chefs get fresh fish from the fishermen of the region, crayfish are farmed directly in the region and the tasty meat is supplied by the Pinzgau cattle.
In addition, the Alpine Delight Trails are (conveniently) designed so that you can enjoy good food all day long: Perfect for us, isn't it? The choice ranges from breakfast on the glacier to lunch on the mountain and dinner by the lake. The alpine dishes that are part of the Alpine Delight Trails are marked on restaurant menus and are easy to spot.

You're getting a little hungry already? We can understand that. We wish you lots of fun on your tours discovering the region’s culinary delights - enjoy!
