GP ICE RACE
A LEGEND RETURNS
The ice race motorsport returns to Zell am See after around 45 years. Amateurs as well as pros competed in the event from 19 – 20 January 2019. Apart from traditional skijoring where skiers are pulled by a car, we were also able to enjoy plenty of motorsport action.
GP ICE RACE 2020
WE GO BACK TO 1928
At the Winter Olympics in 1928, skiers were pulled across the race track at maximum speed by riderless horses.
Skijoring it is! 10 years later, and the first motorised race tandems raced across the ice sheet of Lake Zell. Faster and better; the first cars were permitted at the second skijoring in 1953. Over the years, motorsport on ice became a real trend and attracted thousands of spectators to the many events.
Ambitious racers and passionate motorsport action fans had to wait 45 years for a revival of the event. Greger Porsche Classic Cars GmbH is bringing back the ice race in 2019, thus saving this tradition from sinking into oblivion.
Motorsport is coming back to the Zell am See-Kaprun region.
