Tour description
Popular winter hiking trail from the trassXpress mountain station or the Schmittenhöhebahn mountain station to Sonnkogel.
From the mountain station, follow the green signs marked with trail number 28 towards Sonnkogel. This trail also passes several sculptures from the ‘Kunst am Berg’ (Art on the Mountain) exhibition and a number of sunny rest areas. Once you reach Sonnkogel, you can enjoy the unique mountain panorama from the viewing platform. Afterwards, you can hike back to the starting point along the same route or take the Sonnkogelbahn and Sonnenalmbahn cable cars down into the valley. Alternatively, the hike can also be started at the Schmittenhöhebahn or from Sonnkogel and is possible in both directions.

Route description:
The winter walking path starts at the top station of the Areit lll lift and follows the snow fence behind the Elizabeth Chapel on the Schmittenhöhe (no 28). From there you can either walk back to the top station of the Areit lll or walk on further to the Sonnkogel (approx. 1 hour walking time, with the Sonnkogel- and the Sonnenalm lift), and take the Schmittenhöhe cable car back down to the valley.
