The "Art on the Mountain" project on the Schmittenhöhe has been the largest open-air art exhibition space in Europe since 1995. A total of 27 oversized sculptures made from local materials are dotted across Zell's local mountain, combining art and nature in a permanent exhibition.

The Schmittenhöhe is Europe's largest open-air art exhibition space and has been combining art and nature in sculptures made of wood, stone, and ceramics for over 20 years. Wherever you go on Zell's local mountain, you will discover one of the 27 objects and sculptures. Here you can experience art and enjoy being close to nature at the same time. The sculptures were created by sculptors from Austria, Germany, Spain, and Italy: it was a major goal for all the artists to use primarily local materials for the "Art on the Mountain" exhibition. This special feature is clearly visible. The works of art do not look like foreign objects, but rather like an important part of this landscape.
