Tour description

Sunny high-altitude trails, spectacular views of Zell am See and numerous places to stop for refreshments make this tour on the Schmittenhöhe a truly enjoyable experience.

This varied hike starts at the Schmittenhöhebahn car park in Schmittental and leads steadily uphill along easily accessible paths to popular alpine pastures such as the Jaga-Alm, Sonnalm and Schmiedhofalm. Above the Sonnkogel, the scenic high-altitude promenade begins, with panoramic platforms leading to the summit of the Schmittenhöhe (1,965 m), where an impressive view of around 30 three-thousand-metre peaks opens up. The descent leads via the Pinzgauer Spaziergang to the Kettingalm and on via the Pfaffenkendelsteig back down into the valley – alternatively, a comfortable descent by mountain railway is possible.
