Tour description

At the summit you will be rewarded with an unlimited view over the most famous mountain ranges in the Pinzgau.

A climb to the Schmittenhöhe’s neighbouring mountain will be worth your while because of its great views! On the Maurerkogel you also enjoy a unique panoramic view.

To the north are the Limestone Alps with Wilder Kaiser, Steinernes Meer and Hochkönig. To the south, there is an unobstructed view of the Hohe Tauern with Grossglockner, Kitzsteinhorn and Großvenediger. Treat yourself to pure summit bliss - the climb is worth it. And that’s a promise!

Route description:
Starting point Schmittenhöhe: The path goes down-hill to the Kettingtörl along the Hahnkopfliftes- Kettingkopf under the crest where the Pinzgauer Spaziergang (No. 719) starts, after 15 minutes walking you will get to the junction Maurerkogel. To the right the ridge leads to the peak. At the peak you can go on via the Rohertörl  to the Hochsonnbergalm, which is a very traditional hut that reflects the unique character of the region (home-made products, own cheese dairy). The way back is on the Pinzgauer Spaziergang (No. 719) to the Schmittenhöhe.

Recommended equipment

sturdy shoes, sun or wind or rain jacket. Telescopic sticks are an advantage!
