Tour description

There is a route change for this stage. The current path now leads through the old Buchebenstraße to Kolm Saigurn. The GPX data has already been updated, and the tour description has been adjusted. On the trail of gold and across idyllic alpine pastures to the head of the Rauris valley.

The hike passes by mountain huts inviting for a stop and ends in Kolm Saigurn at the foot of the Goldberg Group. Gold mining in Rauris reached its peak in the 16th century. Not far from there, a short hike through the "Rauris Primeval Forest" is recommended. Also, the view towards the sky is rewarding: in the Rauris Krumltal, bearded vultures were reintroduced in the 1980s, and griffon vultures also spend their summers here.

TIP: Enjoy an unforgettable hiking experience on the High Tauern Panorama Trail! The official High Tauern Panorama Trail Information and Booking Center with the award-winning Trail Angels team is happy to assist you. Experience a combination of personal freedom and the yearning for the extraordinary, paired with service, comfort, and safety. Top offer: The Small Escape Package: 2 nights, 2 stages including luggage service, shuttle and return transfer, and much more, starting from €212.

Route description:

Starting from the Tourist Information in Rauris, you'll walk down the traffic-calmed Marktstraße, heading south towards the valley, and continue to the end of the road. Turn right onto the Rauris bypass road. Follow this road for about 300 meters to the left until you see the Wörther cycle path or hiking trail on your right. Cross the Rauriser Ache and, on the other side of the valley, follow the cycle path leftward downstream. After a while, be sure not to miss the gravel road (marked as "Winterwanderweg" on the trail sign) on your right. Follow this road along trees for a short distance before turning left over a wooden bridge onto a trail marked as "Weg Nr. 7". Descend to the left past some houses and shortly before the main road, turn right onto a small asphalt road leading to Wörth.

Continue along the main road through the village until shortly after a bridge, where you will see a trail (marked as "Ww. Nr. 28") branching off to the right, opposite the Helene house. Follow this small gravel road as it takes you through a left turn and continues for a while with gentle ups and downs downstream.

Here is the new route for this stage:

In principle, the mountain road continues downhill to Kolm Saigurn. Our recommendation is to take a right at the next mountain hut, the Gainschnigg Alm (which is in operation), and follow the educational trail "Rauriser Urwald." This trail will add a few minutes to your hike but is beautifully designed and leads you through a remarkable natural gem.

After completing the educational trail, continue downhill on the mountain road. At a fork in the road, keep right, and you'll reach the Ammererhof in Kolm Saigurn, one of the two accommodations at the end of this stage. Opposite the Ammererhof is the Naturfreundehaus, which is a 10-minute walk away and can be reached via a small access road.

Tips

You can expect idyllic alpine meadows above the Rauris Valley, leading to the base of the majestic peaks Schareck, Hoher Sonnblick, and Hocharn in Kolm Saigurn.

Recommended equipment

The walking time of 6 hours applies if you use the post bus to Bucheben-Maris, otherwise it takes about 2.5 hours longer. Alpine hiking equipment is required for the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail:
  • Day backpack, capacity: 20 litres, with waist belt and rain cover
  • Hiking boots - minimum category B
  • Weather-adapted and hard-wearing clothing in multiple layers. The Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail is mostly at altitudes between 1,300m and 2,450m - this should be taken into account when choosing your hiking equipment (especially your clothing).
  • Height-adjustable trekking poles
  • Sun and rain protection
  • Make sure take enough to eat and sufficiently large water bottles with you, as there are not refreshment stops and fountains on all stages (e.g. on stages 5 and 7).
  • First aid kit
  • Pocket knife
  • Mobile phone
  • Tour description or hiking map
