Hohe Tauern Bike Trail | Stage 07: Kaprun | Mühlbach Valley | Uttendorf Bike Tour

Continuing along the Tauern Cycle Path, you head towards Piesendorf. After the level crossing and the Tennisstüberl, turn left. At the next fork in the path, keep left again. You cycle past the football pitch until you reach a junction, where you once more turn left. The Tauern Cycle Path now leads you past the Hinkelsteinbad with its restaurant and over the railway crossing towards Hummersdorf.

Along the way, idyllic resting spots invite you to take short breaks. At a fork with the striking sculpture “Kopfsteher”, keep left and cross the Salzach once again. You then continue along the Tauern Cycle Path past the Dietlgut snack station. The route now takes you through open countryside, past meadows and fields. With views of the surrounding mountains, you cycle at an easy pace until you reach the village area of Niedernsill. Shortly after the tourist office, turn left towards “s’Dorfcafe – Bäckerei Katschner brot & mehr”.

From here, the steady climb into the Mühlbach Valley begins. You initially stay on the asphalted village road, then turn left into Schattbergstraße and continue straight on along Winklmannweg. Follow this road to the barrier – from here, the forest track (gravel) into the Mühlbach Valley begins. At first, the route leads through shady woodland with a consistent gradient, always accompanied by the sound of the Mühlbach stream. After crossing the stream, a slightly steeper section with four hairpin bends follows. The track then continues gently uphill, passing lush alpine meadows, until you reach the rustic Schaunbergalm – an ideal place for a break with homemade specialities.

Refreshed, you return along the same route back to the village centre of Niedernsill. From here, you once again follow the signposted Tauern Cycle Path all the way to Uttendorf: at the junction after s’Dorfcafe, turn left and follow the asphalted Salzachstraße (Tauern Cycle Path) westwards. You pass the fire station and the natural swimming lake with the restaurant “Die Libelle” until you reach a fork, where you turn right. After crossing the Salzach bridge, you immediately encounter a level crossing of the Pinzgau Local Railway – please take care here. Afterwards, keep directly left and cycle past Lengdorf station towards Lengdorf. At the underpass on the right-hand side, stay left and continue along the Tauern Cycle Path, which winds through a small residential area. At the next fork, turn left, cross the railway and the Salzach once more, and immediately after the bridge keep right.

The final section now takes you largely along the Salzach. Turn left, pass the small Schwarzenbach church and continue to Stubachtalstraße. There, turn right, cross the Salzach for the last time and arrive directly at the tourist information office in the centre of Uttendorf – the destination of this stage.
