St. Hippolyt

Due to its age and shape, the church is certainly one of the most venerable “houses of God” in Pinzgau. Only the western half of the crypt of the Ottonian hall church from the 10th century has survived. The existing building presents itself as a three-aisled pillar basilica of the high and late Romanesque (12th and 13th centuries) with Gothic transformations.

The main apse, ribbed vault of the choir square and the side aisles were built in the early Gothic period (14th century); the gothic vault of the central nave fell victim to the great fire of 1770. The late Gothic added the mighty west tower (landmark of Zell am See) around the middle of the 15th century and the magnificent west gallery in 1514/1515.

The high altar, side altar and the 3 glass windows in the apse are neo-Gothic (1898-1904), the frescoes (14th and 17th centuries) were uncovered during the major renovations in 1972-1975. New organ 1982, people's altar and ambo 2000.
