Kaprun Castle An exciting journey into mediaeval times

It towers majestically and impressively above the region: Kaprun Castle. It was built in the 12th century as a fortress and residence of noble families. Situated just outside the village, it has overlooked the valley ever since. Today, the castle is still a stately building and an impressive sight in Zell am See-Kaprun, and invites you on a journey through time. The historic walls are also used as a venue: Events, celebrations and concerts take place here all year round. Kaprun Castle can also be used as a wedding location.

The history of Kaprun Castle

For many centuries, the castle served as a residence for the nobles who ruled Zell am See-Kaprun. From the 20th century onwards, the impressive building slowly fell into disrepair - until the dedicated Burgverein Kaprun got involved and turned the former fortress into a meeting place with a medieval atmosphere once again. Thus, Kaprun Castle is and remains the splendid landmark of the village.
