On Saturday, December 5, 2019, the hardest ski touring race of the winter will show its teeth again – with a new track and new competitions at dizzying heights. Around 2700 metres of altitude difference spread over 13 kilometres await the ski mountaineers. In addition to the individual starters, there will also be relay teams this year (women/ men/ mixed).
Great things will happen around the Kitzsteinhorn in winter 2019. The new 3K K-onnection, the spectacular connection between the Maiskogel and the Kitzsteinhorn, opens on 30 November. This will make a generation dream come true: from now on, the town centre of Kaprun will be directly connected to the glacier via the Maiskogel to the TOP OF SALZBURG panorama platform at 3,029 metres.
Only one week after the opening of the 3K K-onnection we follow this new connection with the Kitzsteinhorn Extreme.
At 8.30 a.m. sharp, the starting signal for the new Kitzsteinhorn Extreme is given at the valley station of the MK Maiskogelbahn at 768 metres above sea level. Via the middle station of the MK Maiskogelbahn (1137 metres) the route leads to the spectacular 3K K-onnection at an altitude of 1570 metres. The first refreshment station is also waiting for you here.
We continue into the first descent and about 300 meters downhill. It follows the long and tough ascent to Langwiedboden in 1976 meters height, which costs real grains.
At Langwiedboden you will find the transition zone of the relays. For all the others we have the next big refreshment station here. From here it is 1053 meters to our destination. And they are quite hard. On the perfectly prepared track you can feel how the air gets thinner and thinner. Your heart is racing, your legs are burning, your arms are getting heavy - and your goal is getting closer and closer. After the last steep climb and the final carrying passage, you reach your destination on the Top of Salzburg viewing platform at an altitude of 3029 metres.
After the big award ceremony in the Alpincenter we celebrate this Saturday evening together with a glittering party for all athletes, helpers, fans and friends.
The mountain rescue Kaprun and the well-rehearsed team of the Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG ensure a spectacular and top-secured route from start to finish.
