Built in the 12st century - proven by Roman criterion in the east tower. In the beginning the castle was owned by Graf Falkenstein or Graf Peilstein.
More than 600 years of moving history
Even today you can feel it, the atmosphere of bygone days: Entering the venerable castle Kaprun, it is as if you are traveling into the past. Surrounded by centuries-old walls, one gets an impression of how the counts, princes or governors spent their everyday life. Not for nothing is the castle during the summer months again and again the scene of an exciting medieval festival.
What is a real attraction for visitors today has been a proud property and sanctuary for many noble families for centuries. The castle was first mentioned in documents at the end of the 13th century. The construction of the castle goes even further back: Historians assume that the landmark of Kaprun was built by the Upper Bavarian nobility Falkensteiner in the 12th century.
Until 1975, the castle experienced exciting times before it fell more and more to the natural decay process. Finally, the Krapuner Castle Association ensured that rubble mountains, wild growth and weathering phenomena were resolved. Since then it shines again in old splendor - and wraps modern events in a historical garb. The perfect symbiosis of past and present!
Every Monday, all visitors can take part in a castle tour through the castle Kaprun. Guided tours take place all year, every Monday at 5.00pm.
Admission for adults is € 8,-- and children until 14 years are free!
