Mountain Bike Tours
Across the mountains by mountain bike
This is just how you imagined. The forest road winds its way endlessly towards the sky. There was plenty of time to warm up along the lake promenade. Now with the bike route ascending, you take off your bike clothes layer by layer. The morning was still crisp. But now the sun is pushing through and warms everything up. The tour leads from the forest into open terrain. The view opens to the glaciated peaks of the Hohe Tauern. The incline is quite steep, the tour description was right. You reach the hut and therefore the highest point of your mountain bike tour tired but happy. You look forward to a cold shandy and a Kaiserschmarren and enjoy the incredible lake panorama ...
Go on tour
There is a long tradition of mountain bike sport in the Zell am See-Kaprun region. The foundations for an unbelievable variety of tours were already laid by the Mountain Bike World Cup in Kaprun more than 15 years ago. What has remained? This you decide after you have travelled the region by mountain bike. All you need for this is plenty of time and a holiday. You will need more than one week's mountain bike holiday to discover the variety of tours, routes, tracks and freeride trails. You will build up the stamina for this yourself. If not, then simply hire an E-bike and experience the most beautiful mountain bike tours between Zell am See and Kaprun with the help of a motor.
Tour variety at the Hundstein
The Hundstein, a distinctive grass hill with a 360 ° panorama, has got far. It is the hub of several unique mountain bike tours. If you have a bike tour to the Hundstein on your agenda, then there are many possible combinations. Ascent from Bruck via the Erlhof Ledge, to the summit and then to Thumersbach to the shores of Lake Zell - a dive into refreshing waters included. Many also get to the Hundstein by starting from Maria Alm and cycling in southern direction to Thumersbach or Bruck. Whichever route you take, the Hundstein is a special destination and should be on your to-do list.
On the tracks of world champions
It was at the beginning of the new millennium. Kaprun was in the spotlight of the still young international mountain bike scene. It was pouring with rain during the finals of the cross-country competitions. The terrain and the trails became unforgettable. Today, 15 years later, is the Maiskogel in Kaprun still a hotspot for mountain bike tours. The mountain is now shared with hikers, runners and families. Several sign-posted tours lead to the Glocknerblick Inn. The tours lead back to the valley, e.g. to the nearby Klammsee Lake, via beautiful trails. You can still cycle the legendary World Cup 2002 CC-route between Kaprun Castle, the "Guggenbichl" and the Lechnerberg today. Signposts and map material show you the way around Kaprun.
On the sunny side
This is literally the sunny side of the Pinzgau District. The grass hills are still soaked in sunlight long after the northern slopes on the opposite side in Kaprun have already been covered by the shade. Piesendorf and Walchen are the best starting points for mountain bike tours to the Pinzgauhütte and the Hochsonnbergalm. The Hochsonnberg Mountain really deserves its name. Here you encounter many local cyclists and fitness fans. The ascents stretch across more than 1.000 altitude metres. All the effort is rewarded by the sun terraces of the Pinzgauhütte and Hochsonnbergalm with great panoramic views to the Hohe Tauern. The views are best enjoyed with a tasty jause with products from the alpine farm. This is how mountain biking is enjoyed best!
