A mirror of snow-covered mountain tops

You do not have to search for long in order to find a veritable treasure in Zell am See-Kaprun. In winter the natural countryside sparkles in its finest white. Lake Zell, for example, is simply an Eldorado for all kinds of ice sports. Ice skaters, ice hockey players, and ice sailors really appreciate its silvery shining ice surface at the foot of Schmittenhöhe.

Like your silver cutlery at home, the surface of the lake also requires special treatment. A special machine is used to polish it until it shines - the summits of the local mountains are then reflected in it in the most beautiful of winter colours. You can experience this icy spectacle on about 4.5 square kilometres of lake surface from Zell am See to Thumersbach. Cross-country skiers circle around the frozen lake on twelve kilometres of cross-country trails.

Lake Zell is a really hot tip among the friends of wind and ice. Ice sailors, surfers, and snow kiters use this over-sized 'mirror' to indulge in their special passion all winter and give free reign to their urge to move. With the suitable equipment, you, too, will be able to reach top speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour. The pleasure is about to begin - on foot, on skates or with a kite.
