Kitzsteinhorn's glacier in all its facets
Right now it still is the highest situated construction site in the province of Salzburg. But from December 2010 the brand new Peakworld 3000 will be open to the public. At an altitude of more than 3,000 metres above sea level, several attractions will then present Kitzsteinhorn and its environment in their entire magnificence. For the employed construction workers the building measures at the summit station in the perpetual ice are a true challenge.
Once the Peakworld will be completed, visitors can look forward to many new offers which make a trip to the only glacier in the province of Salzburg even more attractive. One of the highlights: Cinema 3000! On an eight-metre-wide panorama screen, cable car operator Gletscherbahnen Kaprun presents you the mountain's manifold facets. When the summit is draped in thick clouds, elaborate films show you what the scenery looks like in summer or spring.
But that is not all: in close cooperation with the National Park Hohe Tauern, Gletscherbahnen Kaprun is currently installing five exciting information areas in the 360-metre-long gallery which leads visitors to the panorama platform. Treated topics, among others, are technology at an altitude of 3,000 metres, crystal treasures of the Hohe Tauern, and the evolution of this awe-inspiring mountain range. From summer of 2011 holidaymakers can enjoy the stunning view of the Alpine peak world including Austria's highest summit: Grossglockner!
